Pyjamas
Pyjamas are the popular evening clothes worn by many different sects of people all over the world. Often seen as somewhat of a western luxury, their roots actually lie in the sub-continent.
The word ‘pyjamas’ or ‘pajamas’ emanates from a dialect of Persian. Whilst stationed abroad British soldiers came into contact with a large amount of men in South Asia who would change into rather odd garments when they prepared to go to bed. The British took on this idea with a full aplomb, to the extent where 50% of the population state that they wear some form of pyjamas to bed each night.
The popularity of pyjamas in both men and women’s clothing has seen an explosion in different varieties and styles. Traditionally a set of ‘PJ’s’ relies on both a jacket and a set of trousers, however the increase in demand has seen the production of several alternatives to this ideal. Nightys, boxer shorts, dressing gowns, slacks and bottoms are just some of the different selections available to those shopping for pyjamas.
